Phnom Penh – July 27, 2025 — Lieutenant General Duong Samnieng, a revered military leader and patriot, sacrificed his life in the battle against Thai invaders at the battlefield of Preah Vihear. His death was confirmed on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 67.
Mrs. Men Sam An, President of the National Council for Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland, led a delegation on Sunday afternoon to pay tribute to Lieutenant General Duong Samnieng’s memory. The solemn ceremony took place on July 27, 2025, honoring his sacrifice and dedicated service to the nation.
Lieutenant General Duong Samnieng served as Commander of Intervention Brigade No. 7 and became a symbol of bravery and resilience in the fight to defend Cambodia’s sovereignty. His courageous resistance against foreign aggression has left a lasting legacy. His sacrifice represents a significant loss not only for his family—his wife, children, nephews, and grandchildren—but also for the entire nation he valiantly served and protected. Celebrated for his patriotism and heroism, he exemplified the virtues of sacrifice and dedication for future generations.
During the tribute, Mrs. Men Sam An expressed her heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Ouk Sunrany and her family, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Lieutenant General Duong Samnieng’s soul, invoking Buddha’s blessings for his eternal peace.
Prime Minister Hun Manet issued a directive to relevant ministries and institutions to organize a funeral ceremony befitting the hero’s sacrifice. “The government, the Ministry of National Defense, military units, and all levels of government must work together to honor our martyrs and uphold the dignity of Cambodian heroes,” the Prime Minister stated on July 27, 2025.
The government reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to honor those who have laid down their lives defending Cambodia’s sovereignty amidst ongoing border conflicts, emphasizing the importance of national unity, patriotism, and remembrance of heroism.
